As consumers are becoming more environmentally conscious, a new traffic light system is coming into play to allow people to make more eco-friendly choices when purchasing food and drinks.
Background
This scheme is the brainwork of Foundation Earth (non-profit organisation backed by the government, Nestle & British brands including Marks & Spencer, Sainsbury’s Co-op & Costa Coffee).
Launch
The test for this scheme will launch in the Autumn and will see a range of food and drink packages with “eco scores” for the first time, ever. Items will be ranked by their environmental impact which will, in turn, allow customers to easily assess the carbon footprint of the items in their basket and focus on suppliers promoting sustainability.
Supply Chain Shake-Up
This new initiative is set to shake up supply chains within the food and drinks industry and promote more companies to be more innovative in how they package goods and their overall impact on the environment. The grading system will be marked into tiers from A to G with colour coding, with green reserved for the most eco-friendly items and red for the least.
According to ‘The Guardian’, “The UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change says the industry is responsible for up to 37% of greenhouse gases, and that without intervention this is likely to increase by 30% by 2050 due to population growth.”
NetBit’s Eco Rating System
At NetBit, we are going to be introducing an Eco-Rating system into our power supplies. This will provide both customers and operators alike with an easy way to gauge and compare the eco-credentials of a given power supply design. We have made being eco-friendly our number one priority for 2021 and are looking forward to becoming greener.
