What is PCR?
‘Post Consumer Recycled Materials’ (PCR) are created from reprocessed plastics that have been used, recycled, and repurposed from household or commercial waste (majority of this from packaging). It’s interesting to note that in Europe, roughly 1/3 of plastics are recycled into new products, giving them a second life. However, when using PCR materials, careful processes and quality checks are essential to creating high-quality products.
How are NetBit using PCR?
Our 2021 goals include the following objectives:
- Legacy PSU case designs to be refreshed to adopt 50% PCR materials
- Fully safety compliant
- New PSU cases design to be launched with options for up to 80% PCR material content
- Fully safety compliant
- More robust textures/finishes
NetBit is using PCR materials to help reduce the use of virgin plastics and cut down carbon footprint within the electronics industry. We have successfully made power supply cases from 50% PCR materials that are fully safety compliant and meet other additional customer expectations for vertical drop and ball impact robustness.
Our mid-term goal is to increase this figure to 80% and we are now working on ways to increase that content further with modified case designs and more robust textures and finishes.
