As part of our conceptual design study, a collaborative effort was put together between our graphic designer, Richard Sharp and our NetBit Asia Product Development team. Using a three-step process we applied three design trends onto our power supply designs which all started at step one – industrial design.
Step One – Industrial design
Richard created three different concept design models based on three design themes or industry trends in consumer electronics:
- Theme one – The Home
- Theme two – New Formality
- Theme three – Pop Tech
Richard took existing PCBA designs from our latest platforms and in 3D CAD wrapped his concept designs around them for each theme. This enabled the reuse of a common electrical design, enhanced and encapsulated within these unique industrial designs.

Each concept design was then refined by creating a 3D external CAD surface model and also by defining the colour, materials and finish (CMF) requirements for each of the designs. These files were then sent across to NetBit’s mechanical engineer to use in step two – the mechanical design.
Step Two – Mechanical design
NetBit’s mechanical engineer Healen Li productized the concept designs by adding features such as split lines, ultrasonic weld energy guides and internal mountings and clips to securely hold the PCBA. The collaborative work between Richard and Healen produced three striking concept models fully detailed and ready for step three – prototyping.

Step 3 – Prototyping
This part of the process is where everything now comes together! NetBit’s development team worked with local prototyping companies to build the parts using Healen’s 3D CAD data and paint and finish the models in line with Richard’s CMF details. Finally, the prototype parts were assembled with the PCBAs in NetBit’s design centre.
